# Import your employees from Excel

> In Weplanify, create or update dozens of employees at once from an Excel or CSV file, each of them being recognised by their own phone number.

- Product: Weplanify (https://weplanify.io)
- Section: Employees
- Web page: https://weplanify.io/docs/employes.importer?lang=en

In Weplanify, the employee import creates new records and updates those that already exist.

![Checking an employee file: 7 to create, 1 to update, 2 errors](https://firebasestorage.googleapis.com/v0/b/weplanify/o/docs%2Fdemarrage%2Fmaj-2026-09-28%2Fdm-import-verification-514dca97.webp?alt=media&token=7c280de8-9d30-4155-92da-ed0a6adf5da5)

## Steps

1. In **Employees**, click **Import**, then **Download template**.
2. Fill in one row per employee: full name and phone are required; add staff number, job, site, team, manager, hiring date, hours…
3. Drop the file and follow the [import wizard](https://weplanify.io/docs/demarrage.import-excel?lang=en): mapping, check, import.

## Good to know

- The phone number is the key: a known number updates the record instead of creating one ("to update").
- Job, site and team are found by their name: create them first ([jobs](https://weplanify.io/docs/configuration.postes?lang=en), [sites](https://weplanify.io/docs/configuration.sites?lang=en), [departments](https://weplanify.io/docs/configuration.structuration?lang=en)). An unknown site is flagged as an error.
- Payroll fields can only be imported with payroll access.
