For a long time, we have seen companies celebrate reaching their recruitment quotas with immense pride. But once that milestone has been reached, the reality is often the same: these diverse candidates are asked to fit into a single mould.
Recruiting for diversity without adapting the corporate culture is like inviting someone into your home and asking them to sit in a corner without speaking.
The real HR question isn’t:
‘How many different candidates have we recruited this quarter?’
But rather:
‘Does every employee truly feel heard, valued and free to be themselves at work?’
Because diversity without inclusion is nothing but numbers.
Inclusion means:
1️⃣ Giving minorities a voice in decision-making, not just in statistics.
2️⃣ Training managers to recognise their unconscious biases in their day-to-day work.
3️⃣ Measuring a sense of belonging, not just numerical targets.
As Vernā Myers so aptly puts it:
“Diversity is being invited to the party. Inclusion is being asked to dance.”
